Description

The Assassin Snail (Clea helena) is a popular freshwater aquarium snail known for hunting and eating other snails — especially pest species like bladder or ramshorn snails. It has a distinct yellow and dark brown/black spiral striped shell with a conical shape and long proboscis used to hunt prey.

Care Information

  • Scientific Name: Clea helena
  • Origin: Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia)
  • Size: ~1 inch (2.5 cm)
  • Lifespan: 2–3 years
  • Tank Size: 5+ gallons
  • Temperature: 70–80°F (21–27°C)
  • pH: 7.0–8.0
  • Substrate: Sand or fine gravel (they like to burrow)
  • Diet: Pest snails, leftover fish food, sinking carnivore pellets, frozen foods
  • Compatibility: Safe with most fish and shrimp; will eat small snails
  • Temperament: Peaceful toward fish and shrimp, predatory toward other snails

Great natural pest snail control with attractive shell pattern. Unlike many snails, they reproduce slowly and won't overrun your tank. Note: Will eliminate ornamental snails (mystery, nerite, etc.) and may starve if no protein source is available.
